The Rochey – A Function Venue in Fitzroy Since the 70s

The Rochey has been part of Johnston Street since the 1970s, and it's been the go-to for milestone birthdays, engagements and long lunches for just as long. 

A 2024 refresh under Castle Events brought fresh energy to the pub without losing the old-world charm that made it a Fitzroy institution in the first place. That’s why The Rochey remains a pub in Fitzroy that locals are genuinely proud of, with a chef-led kitchen and an events team who run functions week in, week out.

The Green Room

Fitzroy's Signature Private Function Space

Old charm with a new face, The Green Room is a fully standalone, fully private space that takes over an entire floor upstairs at The Rochey. For milestone birthdays or full dance-floor takeovers, this is the kind of room that turns your occasion into memories.

    • Cocktail or dance-floor style: up to 150 guests

    • Sit-down feast: up to 50 guests

    • Separate offshoot lounges run through the space, giving guests somewhere quieter to duck away for a chat

    • Two connecting rooms overlooking Johnston Street, fully private from the main pub downstairs

  • Of course, you're welcome to enter via the pub downstairs, but a VIP entrance via George Street takes your guests straight upstairs to the private space, bypassing the main bar altogether.

    • Functional private bar with four taps, cocktails, and a full range of house and top-shelf spirits

    • Decked-out sound system and DJ equipment

    • A dance floor and disco ball, for when the night picks up

  • The Green Room holds up to 150 guests standing or 50 seated. The Long Dining Room and Bowie Back Bar each suit groups of up to 25, and the Beer Garden flexes depending on the day. Tell us your guest count and we'll match you to the right space.

  • Our Green Room bookings carry a minimum spend and our Beer Garden has a reservation hire fee, which varies by space, day of the week and time of year. Our events team will confirm the exact figure for your date when you enquire, so there are no surprises later.

  • Our kitchen offers share-style canape menus for cocktail functions and set or à la carte menus for seated events, alongside cocktail, beer, wine and spirits packages. Dietary requirements are easy to accommodate with five days' notice.

  • The Green Room comes with a built-in sound system, screens and AV equipment, so speeches, presentations and DJ sets are covered without you needing to source your own gear.

  • Our ground-floor spaces, the Long Dining Room, Bowie Back Bar and Beer Garden, are accessible at street level. The Green Room is reached via stairs. Let us know if you need specific accessibility arrangements and we'll help plan around them.

  • A deposit or room hire fee secures your date once your room and package are confirmed, with the balance of any minimum spend payable on the night. Our events team will run through the exact terms when you book.
